I have worked very hard for nearly two decades to build a strong base of understanding in many fields of web development. I consider myself to be a valuable asset to any team that requires an open minded designer with well rounded development knowledge and a logical approach to problem solving.
Client side development is the aspect of web design and development that initially piqued my interest in the industry. I have spent years developing techniques and skills with Adobe Photoshop, and have established two fairly well trafficked tutorial sites: Photoshop Tower and Photoshop Force. Both of these sites were designed to help teach others the finer points of using Photoshop, in order to take their web designs to the next level. I consider myself to be an expert with Photoshop when it comes to creating digital artwork for print & web.
I have also spent the last 15 years perfecting and improving my abilities in slicing and coding with semantic markup. I have worked extensively with CSS based, tableless layouts and understand the importance of valid coding syntax, user accessibility and current web standards. I consider myself to be an expert in xHTML, CSS, DHTML, XML and have an above average understanding of programming with JavaScript, and the implementation of AJAX.
Server side development is another aspect of web development that intrigues me. I have worked exclusively with PHP and mySQL for approximately 12 years as a backend counterpart to the layouts and web sites I have created. I feel that I have expert level understanding of providing well commented, easy to manage code and have worked with many professional grade platforms and APIs over the past several years. I emphasize server resource optimization by creating well structured SQL queries and avoiding redundant or poorly structured programming syntax. I also pay very special attention to validating all user input in order to reduce the chance of quirky behavior or vulnerabilities. Not only have I developed extensive custom backend CMS solutions for many businesses to simplify web site maintenance and updating, I have also configured and heavily modified versions of popular open source applications such as WordPress, PhpBB, OSCommerce, Town News and many other Content Management Systems.
Agile/Scrum Software development methodology is a contemporary group of software development methodologies based on iterative and incremental development, where requirements and solutions evolve through collaboration between self-organizing, cross-functional teams.
I am an active member of the Scrum alliance and have met the requirements to be a recognized, certified Scrum Master. I employ these management practices because they promote adaptive planning, evolutionary development and delivery, a time-boxed iterative approach, and encourages rapid and flexible response to change. Agile software development is a conceptual framework that promotes foreseen interactions throughout the development cycle.
